Puresound P20 Valve MM Phonostage
The P20 is a new addition to the highly acclaimed Pure Sound product range. It builds on the recognised attributes of the popular P10 phono amplifier. It is intended to meet the requirements of those audio enthusiasts who still enjoy the distinctive strengths and high quality of reproduction that can be derived from vinyl records. It is compatible with moving magnet and high output moving coil cartridges. Low output moving coil cartridges will require the use of an additional stepup device or impedance matching transformer such as our own T10. Full output from the P20 is sufficient to drive the line level inputs of any integrated amplifier or pre-amplifier.
As in the P10, the active amplification stages use double triodes in a simple anode follower configuration. However, in the P20, the second stage is loaded by in house designed, high quality output transformers which allow the ECC88 to deliver its full voltage swing effortlessly to the line amplifier used. This second stage is also biased such that there is no need for a coupling capacitor between the first stage and the equalisation network.
The phono equalisation is still achieved using passive components and can therefore maintain its accuracy over time without introducing the unacceptable levels of phase shift found in active equalisation stages. There is no negative feedback in the circuit.
The P20 features two power transformers one providing HT (high voltage) and LT (filament supply) for the input valve (ECC83) and the other providing a separate HT & LT supply for the 2nd stage ECC88 (6922). This configuration assures low background noise and a calm authority to the reproduction of complex music.
